Cobots

Cobots for accuracy & standardisation through human-robot collaboration.

A collaborative robot, or cobot, works closely with human operators in a manufacturing facility. As a Universal Robots distributor, Facteon is closely aligned with an industry leader that works to integrate cobots into manufacturing facilities across the globe.

A cobot acts as a second pair of hands and eyes in your factory. These robots are programmed with ease and simply integrated into your facility. They are highly flexible and can be reprogrammed to perform different tasks as required, from component pick and place to quality control. Rather than replacing human operators, cobots enhance their work by completing mundane and repetitive tasks with accuracy at speed. Introducing a cobot has the potential to improve efficiencies, productivity and production capability in your manufacturing facility.

Smart factory cobot applications

Assembly

Cobots are a highly accurate and efficient extra pair of hands in the assembly process across a range of materials, such as plastics, metal and woods. Cobots are specifically designed to work in close proximity with human operators and automatically operate in a reduced mode when a person enters the work area for added safety. This ensures operations continue running without risking the safety of human operators. Cobots return to operating at maximum efficiency following the human operator's exit from the work area. As a cobot is easily reprogrammed to complete a range of assembly tasks, cobots can be deployed at scale across your facility. A cobot can also be utilised in a single area of your facility for an automation pilot programme. This can be a cost-effective way to introduce robots to your factory operations.

Pick & Place

Cobots complete repetitive pick and place tasks autonomously with ease and accuracy. This allows human operators to focus on production line optimisation, as opposed to mundane and repetitive tasks. Cobots can also perform pick and place tasks in dangerous environments, therefore keeping human workers safe while ensuring tasks are completed efficiently. Cobots are often a viable option for manufacturers completing small-volume production runs thanks to their flexibility for deployment across a facility without incurring additional costs.

Packaging & Palletising

Cobots are suited to completing many packaging and palletising operations in your factory. These robots can be integrated in your facility without incurring the costs and safety requirements associated with traditional robots. For manufacturers needing to adjust their manufacturing schedule at short notice to meet periods of increased demand, cobots can be rapidly reprogrammed in-house and deployed. For manufacturers servicing multiple markets, a cobot can work around the clock to meet production deadlines. It is also capable of packaging and palletising a range of products for different markets.

Quality Inspection

Have confidence in the quality of every product that leaves the factory floor with a quality inspection cobot. Due to their compact and lightweight design, a cobot can operate in confined spaces and be integrated with a state-of-the-art vision system to record 3D product measurements. This testing can be conducted at speed so the impact on cycle time is minimal. A manufacturer can also vary the frequency of inspection based on the quality requirements per product type.

Machine Tending

Cobot flexibility enables automation of almost any manual tending task to increase quality, consistency and production speed. As with many cobot applications, these robots can complete repetitive tasks reducing the risk of injury, while freeing workers from mundane tasks. Cobots give manufacturers of all sizes the benefits of advanced robotic automation without the costs and safety requirements associated with traditional robot set-up. Machine tending cobots are multi-purpose and can be programmed to tend multiple machines in your factory.

Screw Driving & Fastening

The integration of cobots to perform screw driving and fastening work has the potential to improve productivity and efficiencies across your facility. Cobots are well-suited to manufacturers in the medical device and automotive industries as cobots perform screw driving and fastening work at speed and to a high degree of accuracy. A factory's workers are also relieved from repetitive work and the risk of injury.
